If you have an idea for a t-shirt design and name, can you copyright the design? How about a name?

I have a branding concept that I would like to explore, which would include a name that isn’t out there at present.

The temporary, quick cheap way to copyright is to mail the design and and name to yourself. When it arrives in the mail, do not open it. That is your copyright. If you are very serious about it, it will cost you more money. I think you trademark company names, not copyright them. But the design can be copyrighted.
