How can I design a t-shirt at home without a computer?

Posted on September 18th, 2009 by admin in design at shirt | 6 Comments »

I want to make a t-shirt with a flag and my name on it, but I don’t have any transfer paper for my computer.

just sketch it out by hand first. then go to a copy place and see if they can help you with the rest.

drawl it in crayon, REALLY dark, then take and iron and iron it on

shirt, paper (with the crayon side facing the shirt), paper towel, then iron (this may take a while and press hard and leave it in 1 spot for bout 15 sec (not long enough to burn)

*** any writting must be written backwards***
***the crayon may leak to the back of the shirt so put something like a thick old rag or something inside the shirt***

I have had many of my designs printed on T-shirts. Why not try to find some of the transfer paper for your computer? If you cannot, some print shops can print your designs on T-shirts. That is what I did. Call local print shops. Check art supply places and printing supplies locally and online.

You can invest in a silkscreen kit.

It can get a bit expensive for 1 shirt, but if you’re making a whole bunch it’s worth it.

It’s time consuming and works sort of like photography in a way.

-You draw out your design in black and white (try to do heavy lines not teeny ones or the design might not "burn" well). -Then get a screen (a literal screen with a heavy wooden frame).
-Mix your chemicals that come with the kit (they should end up a funky green color).
-Take a squeegie and pour your chemical on the squeegie and spread it over the expanse of the screen, making sure to remove all drips, the screen should be a solid coating of the green.
-immediately place your screen in a light tight place where it will dry. It will take a couple hours if you don’t have an air vent or fan on it, but if you do it should take about 45 minutes to dry.
-Pull out your screen and place your image on a light table, face up.
-Place your screen ontop of your image with the screen part touching the image.
-Place weights and dark covers on the screen to get an optimal "burn"
-You’ll have to wait a while, usually 30-40 minutes for the image to burn into the screen.
-After the burn is complete bring your image over to an area where you can hose it down.
Spray the screen and remove all the extra chemical around the area of the image, but don’t remove the Image!
-place your shirt on a table & place the screen on top of the fabric over the area you want the image.
-Drop some ink on the screen and drag it over the image with your squeegie.
-lift your screen & your image should be there!
-remember for every new image you want make sure you don’t let the ink dry!
-if it does dry go wash out the ink immediately, let your screen dry and then do another print with your screen.

1- You can hand paint it with fabric paints (Check out craft store like Michael’s)

2- You can stitch it, hand or machine.

3- I knew a sporting goods store that took photos or artwork and
made one of a kind tee shirts (pricey)

4- You could find iron on appliques or tape and cut them into the design you want. I know Duct tape comes in a lot of colors. Use an exacto knife

You can also hand paint your design.

That’s how it was done before computers, printers and iron-on transfers.

Most craft stores sell acrylic fabric paints. Many brands offer them in handy, roll-on tubes, like large ball point pens.
